17-4 PH: The properties of chromium-nickel steel at a glance
The high-quality, martensitic hardenable stainless steel WL 1.4548 is especially often used in aerospace and aviation but also in plant and mechanical engineering as well as in measurement and control technology. When it comes to these specific applications, 17-4 PH impresses with its properties:
- Good corrosion resistance
- High strength and viscosity up to 310°C
- Strength can be increased by cold forming and subsequent aging
- High yield limit and wear resistance
- Suitable for use in marine environments (exception: susceptibility to crevice corrosion in stagnant seawater)
- Good forgeability and weldability
Depending on the heat treatment, various properties can be generated. A distinction is made between different gradations:
- WL 1.4548.9 (17-4 PH Cond. A)
- WL 1.4548.3 (17-4 PH Cond. H1100)
- WL 1.4548.4 (17-4 PH Cond. H1025)
- WL 1.4548.5 (17-4 PH Cond. H925)
- WL 1.4548.6 (17-4 PH Cond. H900)
In addition, robemetall also offers 17-4 PH specifications according to American standards such as AMS 5643 and AMS 5622 – please contact us for your requirements!
